Drone spraying uses a multirotor drone with a liquid tank, pump and nozzles to apply crop-protection products and liquid nutrients from a low height above the canopy. Flight routes are planned on an app, so the drone sprays with consistent speed, height and overlap.
Benefits
- Uniform coverage with fewer missed or double-sprayed strips
- Less direct contact between the operator and agro-chemicals
- Works in waterlogged paddy and tall crops where walking is difficult
- Fast turnaround during pest outbreaks
Good practice
- Use only products and doses approved for drone application and follow the label and the Government of India Standard Operating Procedure for drone spraying.
- Avoid spraying in high wind, rain or extreme heat; keep buffer zones near water bodies, homes and other crops.
- Fly with a trained, certified remote pilot.
